My home shopping story

Written by Pw on February 21st, 2009

I recently moved to the City of Chicago as a result of a job transfer. I was from a very small rural town and completely naïve when it came to living in a large metropolitan area. I decided that it would be in my best interest to rent an apartment for at least six months upon my initial arrival before purchasing a condominium Chicago had for sale. I figured that I needed the time to gain knowledge about the city and its real estate market.

This was a very smart decision on my part. My office was located in a more expensive neighborhood that would have caused a financial strain if I had purchased a condo within its immediate vicinity. Luckily, after a few long walks around the neighborhood I found that property a few blocks to the west was significantly cheaper to buy.

I then realized the importance of living close to public transportation. Driving around the city was stressful, and finding parking was near impossible at some locations. If I wanted to get out around the city I needed to be close to transportation so that I could shop and find entertainment with ease.

When winter came I realized that it was imperative that I found a condominium Chicago had with indoor parking. Spending two hours digging my car out of a snow drift was enough winter fun for me.  I needed to find a condo that offered indoor parking.

Then I decided to visit some of my co-workers condos so that I could see firsthand some of the options that were available. One of my co-workers had a great outdoor balcony that offered a spectacular view of the city. Another co-worker had a huge master suite with a walk-in closet and master bathroom. I loved the idea of having a great master bed/bath inside a condo.

So, in those six months I learned a lot. I knew that I could get a bigger condo for less money if I looked in different outlying neighborhoods. I knew that I needed to find a condo within walking distance to public transportation that offered indoor parking. I also knew what kind of lay-out and interior features that I wanted. I’m so glad that I took the time to move into the neighborhood and explore it before I purchased anything. I was able to find the perfect condominium Chicago had on the market to suit all of my needs.

When it comes to improving appearance, many people think that the cost of most cosmetic procedures are not worth the pain of the surgery and recovery, the possibility of mistakes, and high price tag placed on all but the most basic of cosmetic procedures. What most don’t realize is that the cost for a total smile makeover can be a lot less time than years at the gym and a lot less money than plastic surgery. Your face is what people look at and your smile is the focal point for your face.  Your smile is the feature most expressive of your personality.  It is obvious that a smile makeover can have an astonishing impact on your overall appearance as well as your feeling of health and happiness. Indeed, most recipients of smile makeovers remark that they feel like new people and are perceived in general to be more attractive (though few of their friends can pinpoint why they suddenly look so good.)

The cost of a dental makeover is small enough to make it a no-brainer for anyone looking to rejuvenate their appearance and self-image. From an economic perspective, most dental procedures cost far less than other cosmetic procedures, and most agree that – from a results perspective – the impact is dramatic, with the added benefit of being natural-looking and subtle. It is also worth noting that cosmetic dentistry costs far less in suffering than other forms of cosmetic enhancement. Cosmetic Dentistry is an outpatient treatment and recovery times are usually measured in hours – not weeks. This means that patients suffer little and realize the full potential of their procedures in as little as one visit. And because cosmetic dentistry is so safe and advanced, there is almost no risk of an unsatisfactory results.

While conventional plastic surgery is the standby for those looking to improve their overall appearance and feel better about themselves, the expense in time and suffering and the high risk of unsatisfactory results make it a tough sell, especially given the comparatively low cost of a dental makeover

A bright, youthful smile will make you look as young as you feel and feel as young as you look each time you smile. The increased confidence and sense of well-being derived from your new smile will give you even more reasons to wear it – results that no other surgery can reproduce.

Remembering our Heroes

World War II was a monumental time in American history. The world depended on the American military to defeat the very heart of evil, a call America’s fighting men answered bravely. Without the services and lives of so many Americans, the world would have become a much darker place. Imagine if Hitler had been successful, as he likely may have been without America’s intervention. Because of the strength, courage and resolution of American bravery, evil was snuffed out. The tyranny of Adolph Hitler was left to the history books.

America’s legacy during the time of World War II is something to be remembered and cherished. This was the war of our grandfathers, fought so that we could be free. WW II medals are more than just artifacts of history. They are testaments to the legacy, the very fighting soul that shaped the world in the wake of the fall of Nazi Germany.

Whether you are a collector, a descendant of a World War II veteran, or a veteran of the hardest war this country has ever fought, WW II medals put you in touch with that history. You can become part of the legacy, touch it and feel it warm in your palm, as tangible as history can ever become without actually being there.

From history buffs to veterans to antique collectors, medals from World War II give you a connection to that history, allow you to hold it in your palm or attach it to a formal uniform that aligns you with the legacy. As time goes by, they will only accrue in value, becoming timepieces to a lost piece of American history. It’s a sign that we must remember the past so that the world is not condemned to repeat it.

Whether your in the Army, Navy, Marines, or Coast Guard, each branch had its part to play in the great conflict of World War II, its own story and piece of the puzzle to contribute. Honor the history of your particular branch of armed services and the sacrifices that were made during that difficult time in American history with a collection of World War II medals. We are all part of the legacy if we only choose to remember.

How it Got Started

The sport of mixed martial arts better known as MMA has exploded in popularity over the last couple of years and become part of mainstream culture. Today’s fighters use a combination on muay thai, wrestling, and Brazilian jiu jitsu. Most fighters are either known as a striker, meaning they are better on there feet, or as a grappler, meaning they want to take the fight down to the ground; but to be a true mixed martial artist a fighter must be proficient in both striking and grappling.

The very first MMA competition was an eight man tournament with very few rules with the winner receiving a $50,000 grand prize. The concept of this tournament was to face experts of different types of martial arts like Boxing, Karate, Jiu Jitsu, and Wrestling against each other to see which type of self defense worked the best. The competitors included Art Jimmerson a professional boxer with a 29-5 record, Teila Tuli a 400 pound sumo wrestler, and Gerard Gordeau a karate and savant champion.

The smallest competitor in the competition was 170 lbs Royce Gracie. Royce was a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ. BJJ was originated by his father Helio Gracie and Helio’s brother Carlos in their home country of Brazil. BJJ was a ground fighting technique that used submissions that attacked opponents joints like there elbows and knees and chokes on the neck to subdue or make them give up. Royce was able to use these techniques to beat much larger men them himself to win the tournament and to prove that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was the best fighting technique in the world. He would go on to win two more of these tournaments proving that it was no fluke.

Today BJJ is taught all over the world and is one of the most popular forms of martial arts. If you are interested in learning BJJ and attend The University of Texas check out the Texas Jiu Jitsu student organization. For the past several years Texas Jiu Jitsu has helped teach the art of BJJ to the students of UT. It is available to any student currently attending The University of Texas.

Custom Picture Frames

Written by Pw on February 7th, 2009

Any artist knows that the best way to be sure a job is done right is to do it yourself.

Your art is your beauty, your craft honed to perfection. It needs nothing less than a perfect frame, customized to suit its unique size considerations. Your art should be embraced in a frame of professional elegance, a perfect specimen of taste and class.

The trouble is that most professional frame jobs are exceedingly expensive and way out of budget of an artist struggling to make do with limited resources. The truth is that framing your art yourself is easier than you think, and it can be done with a care and craftsmanship that suggests a level of professional sophistication. You can save money and still have your art look professional. The resources are inexpensive, as you can easily find a mat cutter and custom picture frames on the Internet at reasonable rates, often for much less money than you’d find in an art supply store.

Many of the mat cutters available on the Internet are designed for professional artists, crafters, photographers, and framers. With a parallel mat guide, as well as straight and bevel cutting heads, you can cut the mat exactly to your unique specifications. Professional art comes in all shapes and sizes, so it’s good to be able to create a look that’s unique to your art. The key is finding professional tools that go beyond the basics. Finding a professional mat cutter and custom picture frames with variety is easy with the Internet’s wide selection, often at considerably reduced prices too.

Not only can you find a wide selection of frames to meet your artistic needs, you can also find frame sealing tape and mounting equipment to better display the art. Arrange your art in a gallery without noticeable wires or unsightly glue that will stick to the display wall. Mount art in your own home or the homes of your friends with materials that won’t mar or damage the surface of the wall in any way.

Getting into framing is easy with the wide variety of framing supplies on the Internet. The wide selection makes it possible to frame every shape of artwork, and the openness of the on-line market makes it easy to find the materials on a limited budget. Frame your own art with a professional touch with rock bottom prices found on the Internet. Your art will look professional, and your limited budget can be saved for even more art supplies.

Upgrading is Easy & Affordable

Written by Pw on February 6th, 2009

From the computer geek who wants to buy the requisite components of a machine and put it together himself to the casual user who wants to upgrade one aspect of his computer, computer parts are at the foundation of the build or upgrade. Such components are varied, from the “guts” of the computer, such as the motherboard, chipset, power supply and fan, to more easily accessed parts like memory sticks, video cards, sound cards, network interface cards (NIC) and a host of others. Regardless of whether you’re doing a simple memory upgrade or building a box from scratch, researching and purchasing the proper components is imperative.

Even more important is to make sure to match an intended video card, sound card or other hardware upgrade to the type of slots available on your computer’s motherboard. Among the types of video/graphics cards available are PCI Express, PCI Express 2.0, AGP, PCI and SLI video cards. A video card upgrade is particularly popular for many users as they upgrade their monitors or if they are into gaming. Some popular manufacturers include NVidia, EVGA, Diamond Multimedia, ATI Technologies and PNY, to name just a few.

Another popular upgrade that necessitates careful research of computer parts is a memory upgrade. It is important to first know how many memory slots are available on your computer’s motherboard before purchasing memory because the number of slots available will dictate how many memory “sticks” you buy as well as how much memory is available on each stick. Understanding the type of memory your computer takes is also of the utmost importance. Some memory types include DDR RAM, DDR-Dual Channel, DDR2 RAM, DDR3 RAM, ECC Memory, to name a few.

Those building a computer from the ground up require a greater number of components, ranging from the case itself to the motherboard, chipset, hard drive, etc. Those taking this approach have the luxury of purchasing what they consider to be the “best” products at each stage and can “mix and match” parts to make a super-machine of their choosing.

Finally, perhaps the most-purchased upgrades revolve around various so-called computer peripherals, which typically include printers, monitors, speakers, external hard drives, scanners, microphones, cameras, external network cards, etc. The trend now among desktop computers is to use widescreen LCD monitors that are sleek, take up little room on a table or desk, and come in much higher resolutions than their CRT predecessors. LCD monitors ranging from 17” to 23” are becoming fairly standard now, with more savvy users and technophiles often employing larger monitors and dual monitor displays via a KVM switch.

For good athletic advice, cut to the tape

Written by Pw on February 6th, 2009

It’s something about the Midwest. Maybe it’s corn-feeding, the beer, or the cheese – kids out here are just bigger. That means they also to be much better at football. State universities like University of Michigan, University of Ohio, Kansas State, and University of Iowa combined send hundreds of kids to the NFL each year. Many of these players come from the same states they play for, raising an interesting possibility – is there something about certain areas that makes their students better athletes and superior football players?

Consider this. Starting in high school, Michigan football players have already made it through a number of cuts. The first cuts aim at weeding out any inferior athletes or players. A subsequent round of cuts is implemented at bigger schools that separate the students with enough talent and athleticism to play in college from other students, whose careers will probably end after high school. Among the former group, further divisions are made between Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 material in order to create “strings” of players – starters, relief bench players, and backup bench players. By the time a recruiter for a big NCAA school comes to watch a game, literally a dozen players have been eliminated for each player that does actually play the starting position on offense, defense, or special teams.

What is it that makes some players better than others? Can it really just be a matter of Midwestern genetics, diet, and the obsession with football? Many of the coaches I’ve talked to who coach high school Michigan football players agree that beyond determination to become a better player and a better athlete, beyond natural ability and natural athleticism – studiousness can make a borderline college player into Division 1 material. Since football requires players to read other teams’ tactics and to respond to those in literally milliseconds, varsity players who take the time to study the game and their opponents will have a tremendous advantage, especially since – as they learn from watching instead of from a coach – they will internalize what they learn and be able to implement it with great efficacy.

All an aspiring college athlete needs to do is take the advice of the great Midwestern coaches. A real love for football will make it easy to watch games played by great teams and the thousands of high school football video clips that are available online. Just by viewing, a player can intuit the common mistakes made by players and learn to avoid them, while also noting even just a few of techniques and strategies used by winning players to blow out opponent after opponent.

Robots Automation

Written by Pw on January 27th, 2009

You’d be surprised how cheap it is to convert a factory to complete automation. In fact, considering the costs it saves on labor, the ability to manufacture a 24-hour production line, and the added speed robotics provides, you really can’t afford not to make the conversion. Recent technological and scientific achievements have made robots automation friendly, adding to the versatility of the machines as they are applied to the mechanics of production.

Switching to robots automation improves safety on the workplace. Some jobs on the assembly line really shouldn’t be done through traditional human labor. Some jobs are too dirty, too dangerous, or too monotonous, resulting in too many mistakes and inconsistencies in the production line that are only naturally a part of human error. By utilizing robots at many steps of the assembly process, quality is consistently guaranteed. Not only do robotics produce a better product, but they are more cost efficient, faster and more effective than traditional manual labor.

We are stepping into the future. Routine assembly line tasks are best left to machines, leaving the humans to design, program and enjoy their industrial benefits. It’s a myth that automation means fewer jobs. In reality, the job sector is merely changing as robotics require computer programmers and robotics engineers to continue operation. Instead of grunt manual labor, robotics provides careers based on science, computers and engineering. It’s a new world of the future, and it’s certainly an exciting one.

Robotics makes it possible for a company to achieve a more substantial form on its investment. Productivity is maximized, costs are minimized, and quality and consistency are optimized. Although robotic automation can virtually revolutionize an assembly line, the conversion is relatively cheap. As the science of robotics has matured, the technology has become more affordable to install. The cost of conversion is easily made up by the savings that result.

The faster an assembly line is put on automation, the sooner the cost effective savings begin. If you are still relying on traditional labor, those costs are literally going out the window. Switching to a fully automated line will not only allow you to produce more, but at a higher quality with more consistent results. The money the switch will make to your production line will continually accrue.

Why B2b Sales Outsourcing Is Effective

Written by Pw on January 23rd, 2009

Why B2B Sales Leads are critical

B2B sales leads are something else then B2C sales leads. They tend to be more reliable because you’re dealing with firms, not individuals. And, when the B2B sales leads come from a reputable source, this makes them even better.

It is said that a company’s Growth is only as good as the leads it develops. This means many firms are constantly scrounging for new leads. But, it doesn’t have to be a complicated process.

How to Grow Your B2B Sales Leads

Lead generation should be an ongoing initiative for any organization. Many firms make the mistake of marketing, eg, generating leads, only when they need to. This is an inefficient way of marketing.

If you have a system in place to constantly capture leads, you won’t be teamd to make ill advised marketing choices – usually at the time when you can least afford it. Following are a few ways to continuously increase your own B2B sales leads database.

Online: On your company site, put up a subscriber box and an RSS feed. Giving customers two ways to subscribe means they are much more likely to give you their personal information. Why? Because you talk to them in their language, so to speak.

Offline: For every network function you go to or every contact your sales team makes, be sure that the prospect personal information is entered into a centralized database. This prevents your B2B sales leads from going to waste because the business cards are thrown away somewhere, never to be contacted.

Do you realize how many companies leave money on the table this way?

B2B Sales Leads Help to Brand Your firm

Perhaps one of the major reasons B2B sales leads are so important is that they help to brand your firm. By developing affiliations with other reputable companies, you in essence “borrow” their reputation. It’s a symbiotic affiliation in that they borrow your firm’s reputation as well.

It is for this reason that cultivating and keeping track of your B2B sales leads is a major business booster.
