For those unfamiliar with the premise of search engine optimization, it really boils down to a few things. One – popularity: Popularity is gauged by how many references your website has online.

For example, a popular website may in fact have millions of references from press releases, hundreds of thousands of sites linking to it, as well as engagement from social media sites which are used to share resources.

The second thing is what is called on-page optimization. On page optimization is really about creating continuity and eliminating any shadow of a doubt about what the pages focus is as well as how each page relates to a common goal.

Websites that are considered authority sites have proven over time that they either have (a) appealing content (b) a high amount of user engagement (which means people stay on the site to browse around for extended periods and (c) lots of other sites referring to them with links (which create reputation and traffic).

The objective of any website that chooses to use SEO should be first to create compelling content, own a focus that matches the types of keywords that a person would use to find that page and then seek to have others link to them with those same keywords to elevate relevance.

Naturally, you could complicate the scenario more by making specific references to distinct methods, however the gist remains the same. Write great content (frequently), make sure to promote your content with social bookmarks, blogs, directories or article marketing and fine tune your on page factors to act as the perfect beacon to attract the right types of consumers.
